Peter
E. Jensen, M.D.
As
Chair, Department of Pathology
University of Utah Health Sciences Center
Peter E. Jensen, M.D.,
will be joining the University of Utah School of Medicine as Chair, Department of
Pathology on November 1, 2004. The
appointment of Dr. Jensen was recently announced by A. Lorris Betz, M.D.,
Ph.D., Senior Vice President for Health
Sciences, University of Utah Health Sciences Center.
Dr. Jensen comes to the
University of Utah from Emory University School of Medicine where he
served as Professor and Vice Chair of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine,
and Director of the Division of Experimental Pathology. Additionally,
he held the positions of Director of the Clinical Immunology Laboratory and
Director of the interdepartmental Immunology and Molecular Pathogenesis Graduate Program at Emory.
He has made important
contributions in fundamental areas in the field of immunology. His research interests
include antigen processing and presentation, structure and function of
histocompatibility molecules, immune responses to insulin, autoimmunity,
and regulation of innate and adaptive immune responses.
A native of Pullman,
Washington, Dr. Jensen received a B.S., Biochemistry, summa cum laude,
from the University of Georgia. He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa in
1977. He completed his M.D. at Vanderbilt University and a Residency in Anatomic Pathology at Washington University School of
Medicine where he was Chief Resident and Instructor. He is a
Diplomat of the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology.
During his tenure at
Emory, Dr. Jensen served on numerous Institutional and Departmental
Committees. He served as Associate Editor of the Journal of
Immunology from 1992-1999. Dr. Jensen is a member of
the American Association of Immunologists, the American Society for
Investigative Pathology, the American Diabetes Association, the Juvenile
Diabetes Foundation, the Clinical Immunology Society and the American
Society for Clinical Investigation.
In joining the University
of Utah School of Medicine Department of Pathology, Dr. Jensen will lead a
diversified, multifunctional department with more than 70 faculty in six
divisions that include Anatomic Pathology, Cell Biology and Immunology,
Clinical Pathology, Dental Education, Pathology Education and Pediatric
Pathology.
Dr. Jensen and his family
look forward to a family relocation to Salt Lake City.
