The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Medical School and Memorial Hermann Hospital announce an exciting leadership opportunity for a Clinical Pathologist.  The candidate will hold a position with dual responsibilities as Director, Clinical Pathology in the Medical School and as Medical Director, Clinical Laboratories at Memorial Hermann Hospital .

The candidate must be a respected clinician, educator and scholar and will have successful experience in leading a clinical laboratory.  He/She will have an appropriate professional and academic background, including a record of publications as well as research in an area of subspecialization.

The position reports to the Chairman of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in the Houston Medical School and collaborates with the VP Operations of the Memorial Hermann Hospital and the Vice President of Laboratory Services within the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System.  The position is located in the Texas Medical Center in Houston .

Required skills, experiences & competencies include a medical license in the State of Texas (or qualified to obtain one) and certification by the American Board of Pathology in Clinical Pathology.  Additional certification in Anatomic Pathology and in a clinical pathology subspecialty is preferred.  A candidate will be experienced in directing a clinical laboratory in a complex medical school environment, including JCAHO, CAP and AABB accreditation requirements.  A minimum of 10 years experience in clinical pathology is required, with a commitment to quality in laboratory management and excellence in patient care.  Significant experience in teaching medical students and residents is required.

The successful candidate will have an established record of conducting and publishing research that has brought recognition in the field.  He/She will be knowledgeable in the use of informatics in the field of pathology and will be experienced in developing innovative ways to increase efficiency.  

The position is a full-time (tenure or non-tenure track) position at the Associate Professor or Professor level. Salary, benefits and incentive compensation will provide an attractive package that will be commensurate with experience and scholarly accomplishments.
